Mohs micrographic surgery is a tissue sparing surgery performed with the assistance of microscopy.

After the area is anesthetized with local anesthesia your surgeon removes all visible tumor and a small margin around it. She then evaluates the tissue under the microscope to assess for any residual cancer cells.

If cancer cells are still present at any of the margins additional layers are taken. Once all the cancerous layers have been the removed the are is then surgically reconstructed.
